EDTA Nasal Spray
Formulations: EDTA 1% nasal spray
Description:
EDTA is a chelating agent used to clear biofilms from the nasal passages. This allows for a more direct attack on bacteria by other medications. A biofilm can be defined as a combination of a community of microorganisms, encased within a self-generated extracellular polymeric substance and attached to a surface.
The biofilm makes topical treatment of the infection more difficult. In general antibiotics are designed to attack bacteria not break down a biofilm. EDTA can break down biofilms harboring bacteria and also prevent the development of biofilm.
