Description: Mesalamine (also called 5-aminosalicylic acid) is an anti-inflammatory that is prescribed for treating ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a painful condition with symptoms including bloody diarrhea, rectal urgency and abdominal pain. Suppositories are administered directly to the area of concern to decrease inflammation and reduce symptoms.
