Nasal spray with a combination of ingredients for treating chronic sinusitis.
Description
Sinusitis nasal spray is used to treat chronic sinusitis symptoms with a combination of effective ingredients. This topical sinus therapy provides an alternative to orally administered antibiotic therapy for some patients.
Ingredients in this Formulation
Mupirocin
Mupirocin prevents and treats bacterial infections. Bacterial infection is the cause of many cases of rhinosinusitis.
Xylitol
Xylitol is a chemical compound that is often used as an alternative sweetener/sugar substitute in everything from chewing gum to pharmaceuticals. It occurs naturally in some fruits like plums and strawberries and vegetables like cauliflower. Nasal irrigation with xylitol has been shown to be more effective than using saline alone for treating chronic rhinosinusitis.
Bismuth
Bismuth is sometimes used intranasally to help prevent and slow bleeding.
Triamcinolone
Triamcinolone is a corticosteroid that can help relieve symptoms like itchy or runny nose, sneezing, and other nasal symptoms associated with chronic rhinosinusitis or allergic sinusitis. It works by reducing inflammation.
Nystatin
Nystatin is an antifungal medication that helps treat any fungal aspect of rhinosinusitis.
What Does this Formulation Treat?
Chronic Rhinosinusitis: When rhinosinusitis symptoms last longer than 12 weeks, typically it is considered chronic. Symptoms include facial pain and pressure, hyposmia or anosmia (decrease or loss in sense of smell), nasal obstruction, and nasal drainage (runny nose). Topical medications are frequently used to treat this condition. Saline nasal irrigation is a primary treatment method combined with topical corticosteroids and antibiotics. Chronic rhinosinusitis is diagnosed with a physical examination and review of the patient’s sinonasal history.
